The Psychology in Lying

Like most people I'm sure you've wondered if someone has lied to you before, and most likely you have been lied to at one point. I've personally wondered if I was being lied to during a conversation on multiple different occasions. Today was no exception for me, I was having a conversation with a couple of friends during class and after we got done chatting one pulled me aside. She told me that the story that we just got told she heard yesterday but in a completely different way. This made me wonder which one of us got lied to. Yes, I understand that stories can change a little because the person telling them could have left out a detail or something, but the story should not have changed completely overnight.

There is no tell tail way to tell is someone is lying, even polygraph tests aren't held up in court due to how unreliable they are. Everyone has a different reaction when lying. For example, when I lie my heart pumps really fast and my voice gets very shaky and high. However, someone else might get sweaty or their eyes might dart around. Today in class we played two truths and a lie, whenever certain people would lie, they would have a "tell". Some people would smile, some wouldn't make eye contact, and to be completely honest some I never figured out.
